This is “The Canter Course I”. We also offer “The Canter Course II” in the Fall for those that have been through the original course and are ready for the next level.
Where I come from there’s an old phrase to describe the feeling you get when you’re having a good day and everything seems to work out well. You’re said to be “just lopin’ along”. However in the more recent equine world, the canter is often treated as the “third wheel” of equine gaits. Misunderstood or inadequately understood, the canter is often feared and "left for later’” But if we avoid it ,it can grow into a bit of a monster in our minds, and we certainly won’t get any better at it. The Canter Course is a three- part series, designed to bring this gait back into the light of day, because after all, the canter is a completely natural gait that horses started doing right from birth. Riding it should be free and easy. This course will take some of the mystery out of the canter. We’ll cover biomechanics, exercises to prepare for the canter, leads and how to get them, transitions up and down ,and much more , all in a safe, low pressure environment. You won’t be pushed into doing more than you think you can do. Our goal is to help you get a deeper understanding of this beautiful gait so that you and your horse will look forward to lopin’ along.
